DRAMATIC-VALUE CHANGE™

Without value change a scene is a non-scene. Without drama and conflict there can be no story. Every single beat leads to the next and when this fails, the story comes to a grinding halt.

It is well know that the beat is the smallest building block in a story. It is also known that for a story to be truly great it needs to be build with the strongest possible foundation, each building block in the right place doing its job. Each link in a chain needs to be as strong as the rest with the weakest link causing the chain to fail. It is the same with the beat in story. If a beat is not strong and capable of holding its own then the story flow can break down. Each beat needs to built towards the next and carry its dramatic weight.

When the dramatic weight or 'value' is stagnant or unchanging then the reader can begin to loose interest and the story slows.
